Financial Assistance

The priority of financial assistance grants will always go to the individual (s) with the most limited resources and/or severe set of circumstances. As long as funds are available, assistance can be made to individuals:

who do not have adequate financial support to meet basic needs

who have dangerously low, or non-existent financial reserves

who require financial help because of the severity of circumstances; and/or, who can not obtain public, or private support from other organizations because they do not address, or fully fund, the requirement at hand.

Examples might include:

A widow without SBP and living on social security who suddenly has extraordinary expenses

A dependent child of a junior officer requiring sustained medical treatment at another installation and funds are not adequate to maintain two households

Medical costs which have destroyed the financial asset base of an individual and the monthly income cannot meet needs

PROGRAM EXAMPLES

The corporation's by-laws specify that one-time grants or monthly payments, may be made to qualifying individuals from the funds budgeted each year for this program.

Examples of grants provided since 1992 include the following:

A self-supporting college student whose funds had been diminished to the point that a grant was needed to help her complete her senior year at Georgia Tech

An army widow needing a one-time grant to repair her automobile because of an accident and her inability to work due to her medical situation at the time

The widow of a federal employee, GS-13, whose situation immediately following her husband's death required $200 per month for 22 months in order to avoid extensive debt, and permit time to make the necessary financial adjustments for the future

A single parent with minimum income who needed funds for her daughter's college education

The widow of a navy E-7 who passed away suddenly as a result of a brain aneurysm leaving the family with $20,000 in debt. The corporation was able to provide $2,000 immediate assistance
